Graduation Party Planning Tips
A graduation party marks an important milestone and accomplishment. Regardless of whether your graduate is graduating from pre-school or college, elementary school, or high school, there is commitment and hard work to celebrate.

General party planning and planning a graduation party are not that different from one another. As with any party, when hosting a graduation party, the guest list will influence the theme or style of the party, as well as things like the type of party food and activities.
Be sure to ask the guest of honor for input on who to invite. If the graduation party is going to be a surprise, recruit a small group of the graduate’s friends to help you with the guest list. Leaving someone out of the celebration who should be invited and not sending them an invitation is the worst party faux-pas you could make.
Family members can be helpful in selecting the guests and potential invitees. Your guest of honor has friends at school that they would want at the party, so ask one of their friends for guest list recommendations.
Depending on age, your guest of honor may also have a spouse or significant other that you can ask for help in determining who to invite. You may want to include neighbors, friends from clubs or groups, etc. The guest list for a graduation party doesn’t necessarily have to be limited to school friends – it all depends on what will ultimately make the party most meaningful and enjoyable for your graduate.
After you’ve finalized your guest list, it’s time to send out the invitations. Keep in mind if the graduation party is intended as a surprise party this should be emphasized prominently on the invitations. You don’t want someone to slip up and let the guest of honor in on the plan.
Balloons make terrific graduation party decorations – but we’re not just talking ordinary balloons for a celebration as momentous as a graduation party. Why not try your hand at some serious balloon decorating. Use helium to create balloon clusters, arches, columns, and more. You can even create words or numbers with balloons. Balloon decorators charge a small fortune, but you can actually do professional-style balloon decorating yourself with the help of an easy guide that reveals all the techniques and tricks. Check out this balloon decorating book and you’ll really give the graduation party you are planning some WOW factor!
Do some research and find out what the guest of honor’s school colors were and use them in the decorations. Within the decorations, be sure to include the graduation year. You can also use the graduation year when choosing a cake for the party. You can also incorporate a fun theme into a graduation party – turn an otherwise ordinary graduation party into a flashback party, a masquerade party or a luau to add some excitement and make it even more memorable.
One of the pleasures of life is celebrating milestones with family and friends. Graduation is always an accomplishment and a testimony to hard work and it is worthy of being celebrated with a party to mark the occasion. It’s time to put aside all the tests, term papers and teachers and reward all the hard work with a well deserved graduation party!
